Sci-fi Sample Writing

You know that saying if you wish for something hard enough you just might get it, well that was me; I had been living on the street for a few years and I desperately wanted someone to come and take me away from this crazy life, I just didn’t expect them to be from another planet. I and my mother had a really good life until we lost it all when the recession hit and we couldn’t afford to stay in our home, we had to sell and move to an apartment but that only lasted for so long. Soon that money ran

out and we were forced onto the streets with a lot of people; going from shelter to shelter was hard on my mother and she got really sick, I lost her soon after that and now it’s just me.

On the night we were all taken I was in my tent trying to get some sleep but I could feel something in the air that night that made me restless and so I sat up reading a book that I had taken from the public library. I had gotten good at taking things when I needed to and I loved to read so I

would try to clean up as much as possible to not draw attention to myself and spend the day reading in the library to pass the time. I had a few books that loved that I took with me and few books that I

thought looked interesting so I took those as well; I could get lost in a good book and forget that I was in a bad situation and that made me feel better sometimes. As I sat reading I could hear what sounded

like voices but they were not speaking English or any language I had ever heard before; I tried to be as quiet as I could to not draw their attention. They finished speaking to each other and then the air

became thick and I could feel myself getting tired but I tried my hardest to stay awake; the sleep won out and I closed my eyes.

When I awoke I was in a room with a few hundred people all looking around and trying to figure out what happened and where we were; there were families both young and old all looking around scared and hungry who didn’t know what was going on. After what seemed like hours, we

finally heard a voice-over what I think might be a loudspeaker; the voice sounds like a woman and speaks in English to us.

Hello, people of the earth, I know this might be a bit scary for you all but I assure you that no harm will come to you and that you will all be taken care of by the crew on this ship; I am the captain and I will explain everything in due time but for now, I will have food and drink sent in so that you may all eat and nourish your bodies for the journey

ahead.

I was one of the ones who felt relieved when they said no harm was going to come to us, but there were a few who didn’t feel that way and when the food and drink were brought in to us they refused to eat or drink; I grabbed as much as I could begin to eat and drink. A man next to me tried to tell me that the food could be poisoned and that I should not eat it, but I was too hungry to care; I figured if I was going to go out, I would go out on a full stomach. Once the resisters saw the food was

safe to eat they too began to eat and drink; I guess you can only hold out for so long before your hunger will win and you have to eat no matter what you may think.

I felt lucky because not only did these aliens feed us but they also brought our things with us when we were taken, so I had my books to read to pass the time others played cards or just talked about

where they thought we were going and why we were chosen. I didn’t care, I was happy I wasn’t cold or hungry anymore so as far as I was concerned they could take me anywhere and I would do whatever they needed me to do. After a few more hours the voice came back on to explain what was going on and give us a choice in how we wanted to move forward; I already knew what my choice would be but I was curious how others may feel about it.

Once again hello people of the earth, I will now explain what is going on, there is a planet very much like your own that is uninhabited and we want to give you a chance to be the first ones to lay claim to it. We have been watching your planet for years and we have seen how you are treated, we want to give you a chance to do things differently and

make a better world to live on. We have chosen you as a test group to see if this plan can work and we hope that you all will choose to stay, however, if you choose to go back we will happily take you and you will have no memory of what has happened so far. Those that wish to stay should move to the back of the room and those who wish to go home should move to the front, we will be in shortly to collect the ones going home.

That is all that was said and the people who chose to go home, made their way towards the front; there were not a lot of people who wanted to go home, but the ones that did have their reasons most explained that they had family that they couldn’t leave behind. The ones that chose to stay understood and said their goodbye to the ones going home; it was a bit of a mixed emotion feeling in the air, I didn’t know these people but I felt for them because they were giving up something huge.

After an hour the doors opened and what looked like humans walked in and collected the ones going home while we all watched in disbelief at the appearance of our captures. This is where my story starts on this alien ship with other homeless individuals and families awaiting the new home planet that we will have to repopulate and make a better version of the one we just left behind.
