First dates can be scary, especially when you don’t know the person; when my friend Naydeen first told me about this person she only gave me general details about them, stuff like name and general interest; she told me that she didn’t want to give it all away, whatever that meant. So when I get to the restaurant I am not greeted by a man as I thought, but a woman which throws me off at first because I was not expecting that at all, I quickly recover and slap on a smile. This is the first time I have been set with a woman; the name that was told to me by my friend lead me to believe that I would be having dinner with a man but I am nothing if not friendly so let's see where this goes. We are seated soon after I arrive and immediately, she asks me if I knew she was a woman before I arrived; I try to lie but she can see right through it and tells me it's OK and if I want to cut the date short I can.
“OK, be honest, how much about me did you know before coming here tonight?”
“What do you mean?”, playing dumb makes no sense but I have to try.
“You know what I mean, did you know I was a woman?”, she sees right through me.
“To be honest, I didn’t know but why does that matter?”
“Because I can tell that you have never been on a date with a woman”, she’s right but that shouldn’t matter.
“Why is it a big deal? We are here now, so let's just see where this goes and have a good time”, I was up for anything at this point.
“Look, I get it, this is not your thing, so you don’t have to do this, you can cut the date short if you want”, giving me a way out, how sweet of her.
“Wow, already trying to ditch me, I feel a little hurt by that”, I try to keep a straight face but break after 20 seconds and we both bust out laughing.
We order our food and drinks and begin to have a really nice conversation; we talk about the usual first date things, like where we grew up, what we do for a living, and what we like to do for fun; everything is going great and the fact that she is a woman is long forgotten. After dinner is done we head out and I walk her to her car, I tell her how much fun I had and that I would love to do this again if she is up for it; we exchange numbers and I give her a peck on the cheek. I honestly was not expecting a woman to be my blind date, but I am glad that it was, she was both funny and nice, plus she was not bad to look at either, all in all, I had a nice time.

I have gone out on many dates with women but I can honestly say that this was one of the worst ones that I have ever gone on; I get to the restaurant early because I don’t like to keep people waiting and being late is one of my pet peeves. The date was for 7 pm and she arrives at 7:30; when I see who it is I get a little excited because I have had a crush on this woman since high school and I figured it was my chance to get to know her more. When she sees that it’s me she has a look of horror on her face that she tries to hide quickly but I do notice it; we do the common pleasantries of a first date and I figure maybe I can turn the date around and get back on track. Before I try that I try to give her a way out, just in case she really doesn’t feel comfortable going on a date with a woman; she makes some horrible joke about me ditching her and her feeling being hurt, I laughed to be nice. I do ask her if she knew she was going on a date with a woman, and she tries to play dumb like she doesn’t know what I am talking about but I have to call her out on it.
“OK, so how much about me did you know before coming here tonight?”, simple enough right.
“What do you mean?”, playing dumb makes no sense at this point.
“You know what mean, did you know I was a woman?”, she looks down at the table.
“To be honest, I didn’t know but why does that matter?”
“Because I can tell that you have never been on a date with a woman”, she has no idea what it is like to feel like someone’s experiment.
“Why is it a big deal? We are here now, so let's just see where this goes and have a good time”
“Look, I get it, this is not your thing, so you don’t have to do this, you can cut the date short if you want”, I was giving her a way out, I figured she would take it.
“Wow, already trying to ditch me, I feel a little hurt by that”, she holds a straight face for a few seconds and then starts hysterically laughing.
We order food and drinks and I try to get through the date as fast as possible but seems to drone on and on; she talks about herself the whole time, telling me things about where she grew up, what her job is, and what she likes to do for fun. Not once does she ask me about myself and I can honestly say I am glad for it, talking to her was like talking to a river, she just kept going and going; I was thrilled when the check came, I paid for everything and she walked me to my car. I tried to be pleasant and she tells me how she would love to do this again sometime and say yeah to be nice; I go to get in my car and she leans in and gives me a very wet kiss on the cheek. I have never been on a date that was this bad and I have no intentions of seeing this woman again; I guess that is why high school crushes are meant to stay that way; I don’t think I will be going on any more blind dates.
